The Mk 1 is just a little larger than the standard deluxe version.

I made this over the weekend out of 1" MDF, it also fits nicely on my Steel City drill press table although the center needs routing before I use it. Used a 5/16" tap to create the screw holes in the mortiser cast iron table and made the stops out of Ipe. The hold down clamps from LV work great, I'll drill more holes for the clamps as necessary.

Thanks Mark Singer and Paul Cresti for the pics and info from previous threads, I'm very happy with your design.

Regards,
Wayne

Wayne,
It looks very much like mine. Occasionaly you will want to clamp the part to the table....make sure the clamp does not hit the limit knobs, or it will loosen them..

Nice setup, Wayne. The Aux table really makes clamping a piece of cake...and repeatable!

Whoa! I've never seen a jointer used like this. Could you give us some more info, or links to discussions on it?

Thanks

Matt, it's not about "a jointer", per se...many combo J/P and full combo machines sport a slot mortiser that happens to use the jointer/planer cutter system to hold the mortising chuck. It's the proverbial "fifth station" on a full combo. The key is not the spindle, however...it's table that moves in several dimensions via levers and stops. The workpiece is held to the table and the whole assembly moves through the cut. Depth is increased with each pass until the full mortise is completed. Then the workpiece is dismounted and the next one is slapped on the table and clamped...repeat...
