I turned this HF at our club demo last weekend. I wasn't able to do any sanding at the time, so I finished turning it and called it done. I finally remembered to take it to the shop the other day and popped it in my vacuum chuck and sanded it. 5" x 5", buffed Antique oil finish.

Wow Travis that is a nice piece. Love the finish. How do you get yours to look like glass? I can't even get mine close to that.

Beautiful shape. Is it shadow or did you dye the interior? The contrast between the interior and the exterior is striking.

Beautiful piece with an awesome finish you did Travis.

I have a bowl and HF that I'm just finishing up which I think is sweetgum but not certain. I have heard that sweetgum doesn't have any discernable grain, but sycamore does. I'll post pics soon.

Beautiful Work again Travis! How long do you normally spend on the sanding and buffing process? Your form on this one is great. I like the way the form tapers up to the lip then angles down inside the lip. It gives it a very clean sharp appearance:)

Travis - once again a very impressive piece! While the wood, small foot and finish really are great, I find the form flawless! I do wonder when you sanded the vase - what was your finishing grit? I love glossy finishes but have not yet been able to achieve a true glass look. Very nice work!

Thanks guys. Gary, the inside is natural, that's a shadow.
Seth, it's 2 coats Minwax Antique oil. I apply a heavy coat and wipe off the excess a few minutes later when it starts to get tacky, repeat the next day.
Chris, I'm not sure, maybe an hour or 2 total. Steve, I sand to at least 600 grit, sometimes 800 then buff with all 3 of the Beall buffing wheels.

I just love that "liquid" finish you put on a lot of your pieces, Travis. That is gorgeous.

Travis bo you buff it at all before you put on the antique oil. I have used the oil also and it turns out nothing like yours
