Hemlock from my neighbors burn pile, roughed last fall and dried in paper bag. Didn't turn out bad at all. Finished with lacquer. Comments and critiques welcome.

That's a very beautiful bowl. Nice clean form that lets the natural beauty of the wood speak for itself.

Wow, I don't think I've ever seen Hemlock before. I like the form and finish. Burn pile huh? My what gets thrown away sometimes, makes me cringe. Great Job!:)

I like the simplicity of the shape - looks good with the grain... an excellent turning!

Good job. It's a tough wood to turn with that big difference between early and latewood. My biggest problem with it is that it is always full of wind shakes, even worse than black ash. I've got a couple pieces out on the pile now, but there's better wood ahead of them, and they may never see round.

What a lovely bowl Bill, first Hemlock I have ever seen. I certainly am going to give that stuff a try as I have many large Hemlock Trees growing at my summer camp. In the past I have always given them away in 6 & 8 foot lengths, my friends cut them up and use them for firewood. I tried burning them at the camp but I tell you one thing for sure they certainly don't have many BTU'S in them. I believe the next one I cut down will be made into a few bowl blanks. Thanks for showing us the pictures, all the bowls are nice but a special thanks for the idea of using hemlock on the lathe.

Bill, I like this piece a lot...the growth ring pattern is really enhanced with the form you used. Bravo!
