Cigar pen blank dimension

Hello,

I had some tear out when drilling the 10 mm hole in a amboyna burl pen blank. The tear out happened deep enough that the brass tube is exposed by about 1/16". This is the upper barrell and the tear out happened at the cap end. Can I trim this barrell down that much? If I can't do you have any ideas on how to save this blank?

Hi Rusty,

Being that it's the upper tube, I think there's enough room that you can cut it down. If it does happen to be too short you would just have to pop out the cap & clip. I'd give it a shot. Otherwise I'd just part off the end and glue another kind of wood to the end and turn it. Just call it "Character". :p
