Here's a practice piece. Its about 11". The volunteer director of our church youth group is retiring after about 20 years and the board has asked me to make something for them. Wheat is a symbol of the program so this piece was to test my wheat design. The final project will be about 15" diameter and also include a slogan inlaid.

Walnut, hand and power carved, a little woodburning, finished with Mahoney oil.

Thanks Guys, but here's the thing. Does it really look like wheat? Wife likes it, customer likes it, but part of me thinks it looks more like a fern than wheat.

Anybody else see that?

Beautiful bowl and beautiful inlay... I would say it looks like wheat to me. If you had made the stem shorter and the head wider it might look like fern, but I think you did it right!!!!!! Looks beautiful!
