Here is an american sycamore platter. I played around with some black dye on the edge. I still need to finish turn the bottom except it doesn't fit my doughnut chuck and haven't found the time make a bigger one....or the dough for a vacuum chuck. Guess I'll have to locate the double-stick tape. Comments welcome.

Beautifully done Chip! Make another donut chuck. I'd hate to see that bite the dust due to some bad double sided tape! Well done!

I like it a lot... the contrast with the rim is really nice! A very nice piece of work!!!

Chip,
If you are even a little mechanically inclined I can send you some information on making your own vac chuck system for about $75. We had Ernie Showalter come and demonstrate at our turners club last month about making one. Looks real easy and cheap, but I have worked on one turning a 13" platter out of wet elm and it worked beautifully. If you are interested, pm me you address and I will make a copy of the article and send it to you. Any one who wants it I would do this for too.

or get,

Chip, really nice looking platter! I like your use of black dye to highlight the rim area. Hope you figure out something to use to finish turn the platter. Nice work!
