Quality of cut and the chipper design. (number of teeth on the chippers) The SD508 is the "top line" set of the two and the SD208 is the basic product.

More teeth on the outside blades as well as on the chippers on the 508 - 12 vs 24 on the outside blades and 2 vs 4 on the chippers.
