What wood & how to color???

A client sent this to me. I'm stumped. I see the center is BE Maple, but does anyone have any idea what wood the rest of the cabinets is?

Also, I could use a little help on color. I've used aniline dyes but rarely have I gotten this stunning result.

Tiger maple is my guess, Mitchell...and dyes are the way to go. There is a thread in the Finishing Forum (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=54355) that discusses dyes that you might find useful...

Oh, and dollars to donuts, that original is a veneered peice.

Oh - veneers for sure. At the time, the big radio mfgrs turned out tens of thousands of units a year. I once had a photo of one of philips cabinet shops. Acers of steam forms, stacks of veneers, OMG!!!
