I got this burl from a friend at work. It was a true limb burl, meaning it looked like a burl on a stick. The brach going "in & out" of the burl was maybe a finger width in diamater while the burl section was the size of a raquetball. Had a distinct smell when cutting it, but I couldn't place it. Maybe cedar like with a tang of I might describe as eucalyptus-like...hard to describe. No idea what is really is.

I was planning of doing a form similar to what I've seen at www.conjureworks.com (http://www.conjureworks.com) with some of the spiked forms. Was going to insert black dyed spikes into the egg shape, but the grain was so pretty I decided that would mask the beauty of the grain. I need to find the right peice of wood for a spiked form.

Anyway...had to fill some areas with clear 5 min epoxy so I could get a smooth form without losing too much size.

Finish is part frition polish and with some beall buffing action.

A little over 2" in diameter and 2-1/2" high.

Thanks for looking.
Bob

Cool looking egg, nice job on turning it, limb burls have built in handles , the jack pine out here gets em pretty good up to 8 in x 5 in, they make all sorts of great ideas as long as the pitch/sap is still in em the colors are fantastic.

Nice looking egg Bob! Amazing grain. Think you were right in letting the wood speak for itself. Very nice piece!

Cool egg. Almost looks like a eucalyptus burl. Just a guess though.:D
