Any SMC-ers down here in Nashville who know where I might be able to get a brake line fixed on short notice? We're stuck, as it were, at a Comfort Inn (by White Bridge Pl) in Nashville. Made it as far as here (planned) from Florida but, I think that too was but by the grace of God. It's not even holding fluid for any appreciable time. (95 Toyota Camry) The daughter said she had it fixed in FL before we left but, me thinks she got ripped off! We still have close to 700 miles to go to make it home. :(

If any of you locals out there might know a nearby shop who might be able to take care of us, I'd (we'd) be ever so grateful. If you know any place, you can reply here or PM me. Thanks much!

John, Chris Barton lives in Brentwood, which is one of Nashville's 'burbs. Don't know if he has a listed phone number, but you might try to PM him. I'm also sending you a PM about a guy I know there who might be able to help you.

Chris, didn't see your reply or PM until just now and, as it happens, that would be from my computer in my own shop!!! :D

Anyhow, you must be telepathic or something! I started searching around on the World Wide Web for brake places and then doing location searches as I found them. You'll just never guess where we ended up! Yup, at the exact same place you mention! Good folks! It still cost me a bunch of $$$ but, they made recommendations on stuff I could do myself once we made it back home and only repaired the absolute necessities. Plus, we got to the shop at almost exactly the same time you posted your reply and we were on the road at Noon. I agree with your findings: Good and reasonable. Still expensive but, nothing outrageous and what I'd expect to pay just about anywhere without their additional diagnosis on what I could do myself later on. Most other places wouldn't have let me out of there w/o doing all the additional repairs and charging me a king's ransom!

Hopefully next time, we'll have a bit more time to spend in the area and I'll look you up! (You've been duly warned! :D )

Thanks for all the suggestion folks! Appreciate the efforts! :)

Hah! You kiddin'? ALL of my money went into the brake repairs! Not surprising to me, I guess, all around the area where there were these repair shops, there were TONS of place for "quick loans" against payroll, car titles, your first born, etc... Unreal! Real friendly folks, though. :)

Thanks, Jim. Yup, we're home, safe and sound. Long haul from Nashville but, pretty much open driving the whole way. Brakes worked great. Actually, I'm quite impressed with the Camry. I think the car wasn't very well cared for but, it still runs out and handles quite nicely. All packed down, plus the two of us, going just a "tad" :D over posted limits and we still averaged just a touch under 30mpg! Just dropped it off over to my mechanic friend for a "once over" to see what else it needs. I'll be doing some of the work myself but, stuff like CV joints and such, I leave to guys with more experience and tools. :)

Feels good to be home, albeit, about 25° cooler than it was in Nashville. :( Sure is pretty country out that-a-way! :)

John, Glad to hear that all worked out well. My school-teacher friend was glad to hear that you had a good experience with that brake shop; he has put that on his list of referrals.

Yep, it is pretty country through Middle Tennessee, and folks are friendly--I grew up there and what you got was a small dose of real Southern hospitality. It isn't a myth.

Thanks, Nancy. Yeah, the guys were really nice. The mechanic who actually did the work noticed the upper radiator hose was collapsing, as well. He said, "Run across the street to Pep Boys and get yourself a new hose and some anti-freeze. I'll slap that on there for you so you don't run into cooling problems down the road, too. No charge." :) Good people. :)
