Can I use plywood for a french cleat system in my shop? All the examples I have seen use hardwood, but I have TONS of scrap plywood that I could put to use.

All of my shope cabinets, and even the plane cabinet, is hung using french cleats made of 3/4 plywood. No problems thus far.

Being a long-time sailor, I hesitate to ask but what is a French cleat? O K, there - I've gone and shown my stupidity!

French Cleat is a cleat you cut a 45 deg angle on one edge and mount it to the wall, then you make a mating piece that is attached to the cabinet. Makes it easy to hand the cabinet.

Plywood is what I've used for french cleats nearly every time I've used them.
