I was quoted prices this week on cabinet grade and shop grade Birch. So what is the difference? I am going to be making some pieces from Birch ply and hardwood. I am sure there is a difference I am jsut not sure what it is.

Usually the face veneer grade but it could also be the number of plys.

A quick google will give you a run down on the different grades of plywood. The differences can be substantial as well as expensive.

If you get good shop grade birch it will make good cabinets.

Here's a blurb from KM Hardwoods Site:

"All of our inventory is in a shop grade material. This means that the plywood was intended to be a high grade product, but because of some defect did not make the standards for the high grade. It may have a broken corner, a small area of void, or a sanding error."
