Does anyone know where I can get free graphics high definition for laser etching on granite or wood? Especially deer and other wild life and hunting scenes. Or purchase them for a reasonable price? I have a lot to learn, but at this point. I am not ready to design my own graphics. I would appreciate any and all help, thank you
Epilog Laser's http://www.sawmillcreek.org/images/icons/icon14.gif http://www.sawmillcreek.org/images/icons/icon13.gif - I'm considering purchasing and Epilog laser Legend EXT 45W for those of you who own Epilog lasers, would you consider this a wise decision. Are you satisfied with your lasers performance? Have you had mechanical or maintenance problems, how do you rate your Epilog laser and how do you rate epilog’s tech support. Thanking you in advance for your insight and help.Robert Gauntt

You can purchase a huge amount of clipart on disk. You canbuy something like Art Explosion 150,000 (?) images for less than $100 at Best Buy. You can probably find it on-line for less.

Epilog makes a fine machine. I know, we have owned 100's.

I have had a few problems but the tech support has been top-notch.
Close to 3 years now, replaced one tube on warranty, another that I paid for.

Also replaced lenses and mirrors and a motor (no charge). Mine is a legend 24tt and has been running 6-10 hours a day.

I'd recommend Epilog but advise that you include something in your prices to put away for future after warranty tube replacement ($2,300).

Robert,

We purchased that exact laser a year ago in January. I am not running it nearly as much as most of the users on this site as my wife and I are still working on a website and picking up local business as time allows. I have had very few problems with it and none have required any parts. Tech service is excellent and has quickly solved every problem we have encountered. We went with the larger table size because one of the products we offer is 24 x 36 but sometimes I wish I had a smaller machine as many of the jobs we do don't require such a large table. All in all, it has been a great machine and learning X3 has been the greatest hurdle for us. Best of luck to you!

Dan,
Thanks for the info. I like you have a lot to learn. I only hope I don't regret this decision. Finding good quality graphics will help.
Thanks again.

Keith, thanks. Its not exactly what I'm looking for. More like ink drawings with alot of detail and hunting scenes.

Go to Google click on images and search for it. Then sort it by size large first. Many of the images are royalty free, just make sure.

we have the 800,000 art explosion cd's. Worth having, but not much for good wildlife, deer, etc. It is always a struggle to find graphics that will laser well.

I think they say they have 6 million images. All kinds of stuff on there. You can look for free, you have to subscribe if your going to download. I have used this site off and on for a long time. Check it out.

They have a lot of stuff, but a lot of it is low quality cartoonish crap. You have to pick though a lot of stuff to find the few good ones, and you might not find any good ones of the given subject you are looking at. There is very little stylish, high quality line art.

Also, a lot of times the results are either not vector, or the vector stuff was auto generated from bitmaps and are very hard to modify.

Their prices keep going up and they keep pulling a lot of the good stuff off that site and adding it to one of their many other specialized sites.

Their numbers are skewed, since many of the graphics show up multiple times in their system.

I would categorize their clipart into:

- cartoonish clipart, good for a family picnic invitation
- advertising and illustration art from the 1920s-1940s (same as in Dover books)
- graphics from magazine articles from 1880-1920

Of course there are also many photos, but they've removed pretty much all the high resolution ones (moved to their higher priced sites) and left only ones with enough resolution to use on a web page.

Like I said..you can look for free and make your own judgement. I downloaded a piece of clipart last week that was perfectly good. Some is good, some is not so good. Anyplace where theirs SIX MILLION of anything is going to be that way.

I use google quite often to find useable artwork.. The U.S. forestry or wildlife service has some good stuff as well..
If your using google, and wanting to filter out the 'crap'
Stick in a keywork (deer, buck, hunting.. etc) Use the advanced setting, Black and White, any file type, size large (start with large then go to medium if nothing shows) no use in using small, you only get web graphics and you still get a number of them in 'medium' ... This 'black and white' is true black and white 'line art' not greyscale.. Yahoo thinks greyscale is also black and white so google is better for stuff to be lasered..
For Example:

http://images.google.ca/images?as_q=deer&hl=en&newwindow=1&output=images&svnum=100&btnG=Google+Search&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&imgsz=xxlarge&as_filetype=&imgc=mono&as_sitesearch=&safe=off
