I had asked for advice about this sofa table in the finishing forum and recently completed it. This is my first table. It was an enjoyable project and my wife and I are both pleased with the outcome. I had a few problems along the way but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a few extra manhours. The plan is from Woodsmith.

Awesome!! I have been toying with an idea to make one for behind our loveseat and this has given me a few new ideas.

Thank you all for the kind words.

The bottom stretchers are 3" at the legs x 38 1/2 (exclusive of the tenons).

I really like that misson style!

We have some cheapo mission end tables we purchased, and someday I want to try my hand at making that style.

It is nice to be able to put a couch somewhere besides against a wall. The table is a nice touch.

William,

Very nice work. The mistakes keep it interesting and judging by interest I sure do make alot of them.

William, the table looks great. First table eh? Looks like you're miles ahead of where I was for the first table. Keep it up!

Your table is beautiful. What type of wood and finish did you use? And how would I go about obtaining the plans for the table?

Thomas, this table was featured on the cover of Woodsmith a number of years ago - possibly as long ago as 1997 or 98. I'll try to big it out tonight and give you the issue number, unless William beats me to it. We modified the same design to make a coffee table to go with the sofa table.

Thomas-

I used walnut for the table. For the finish, I applied boiled linseed oil and let it dry for a week. Then I brushed on 6 coats of dark garnet shellac, 1.5# cut, using Behkol as a solvent and rubbed out with wax. It would not be a good project to try brushing on shellac for the first time.

The plan was originally in Woodsmith #104 or you can buy it here:

Thanks, William. :) I figured that you'd beat me to it, since I'm not at home with our library right now.

Nice table! That's your first?! You are definitely better than I was at that stage. You might be better than I am right now:)
