We have been asked to engrave a graphic onto the front of a Black Ash cremation box. Has anyone engraved Black Ash and if so what tips could you give us? Having never done this type of wood before we're not sure how well it will engrave, and unfortunately there is no scrap to "play" with.

Thanks

I would treat as would normal ash. I really don't think it'll laser any differently. You could practice on some other hardwood to get your settings figured out.

Here's a great site I found for looking at different woods and what to expect from each. The guy is amazing.

I've tried ordinary ash, but not black (dyed/stained presumably). Ordinary ash doesn't laser very well IMO. The varying hardness of the wood (slow growth/fast growth) in the "rings" makes it hard to work with. YMMV.
