Another little Cocobola HF. 3-1/2" x 2-3/4". Sanded to 1200 and buffed with Tripoli and wax.

I've spent two days and about 100 shots trying to get a decent photo of this thing. Thank goodness for digital. The toughest part was toning down the 'alien eyes' I was getting from reflectivity.

Comments/critiques welcome as always.

Neal,

I really like the piece. In particular, I like the grain orientation. It gives the piece a lot of movement.

Love the form Neal - absolutely perfect! Wood is beautiful and your finish highlights the woodgrain! Very nice work!

Neal,
Excellent HF! What light placement ultimately worked for you in getting a good photo?

Neal, Are you shooting to be the small HF King? You've been cranking out some nice HF's and this one is no exception. Love the shape and although I'm not a big Cocobola fan I do like the grain in this one. Excellent!

Very nice piece you have there. For photos w/o ailen eyes there's a product called dulling spray. We use it when we have show cars shot for magazines. It doesn't take away from the detail but it gets rid of the reflection of the flash. We cover entire cars with it so we can get good shots. Again very beautiful piece you have there.

There aren't many woods prettier than cocobolo and on this piece the form is just as pretty as the wood. In my opinion there ain't nuthin' wrong with reflections. Without them you'd never really know what the finish was like.

I did see a picture once on the web though that someone had taken to show a room for a real estate add. Problem was they took the picture while they were naked and their reflection was in a mirror on the wall. So if you're taking a picture of a hollow form with a really glossy finish, please keep your clothes on;) .

Thanks for all the kind comments, folks.

Mark, I used a 30" light tent and placed the source about 1' out from the top left, pointing right at the seam and slightly towards the front. I also set up a reflection screen, per Travis' advice, on the right wall and bounced a third light off the wall to the front. A tent flap covered the opening to reduce the dreaded 'black hole'.

I'm still trying to get a handle on this photo stuff. Never knew woodturning would take me that direction but it's a lot of fun. Still trying to get by without taking another step over the "photo abyss".

Neal, beautiful work but what really caught my eye is the gentle upward curve to the lip. Masterful!!:)
