I have both kinds which I just recently received, but I have never sharpened either the inside or outside channel types. Also, which vendor do you use to get your sharpening supplies for these tools. Thanks for your advice. Richard

Hi, I mostly use a 1 inch wide belt grinder with a 120 grit belt for grinding, and use the gouges straight from the belt for turning. (I remove the bur with a small pocket stone).

For chisels etc, I use the above belt for grinding if required, followed by a 15 micron belt for sharpening. If further attention is needed for a flat item like a chisel or plane blade, I do the final touch up/micro bevel on a 1000/4000 waterstone, or use a leather belt with green compound for tools that don't need a perfectly flat edge such as knives, carving tools.

Regards, Rod.

Richard, I use a Woverine jig system and a Woodcraft slow speed grinder. It's quick and easy.

I use a Tormek with the appropriate jigs to get the job done.

Richard,
I use both the wolverine and the belt grinder. The belt grinder is the easiest to use since I just turn it on and apply the gouges or skew. The wolverine takes a bit more since I keep the slide in most of the time.

Here are some quick pics of how i handle Bowl and Spindle gouges. I also have a skew outrigger that I made as well as my standard tool rests to handle my scrapers. :)

Another vote for the Wolverine system. Its really great, and fast too. I use it with a slow-speed grinder (1850 rpm) and a fine white wheel.

hi, 1 inch belt sander from leevalley and sharpening belts from leevalley and klingspor followed by a honing belt or a buffer with compound to bring the edge to razor sharpness every time.

Ever heard of a JoolTool. For years I used a Wolverine system. Now I use a Jooltool. It's quite unique in the sharpening world. So far I'm really happy with it. www.jooltool.com (http://www.jooltool.com)

Wolverine system with an 8" grinder. My wheels are good quality and are balanced with the OneWay wheel balancing system...the latter has made a huge difference in sharpening quality.

Malcolm! I just ordered a new Tormek. Quit tempting me with more toys!

I'm going to love my Tormek, love my tormek, love my tormek...
