I practiced on several pieces, but this is my first complete project. It's a mahogany turkey pot call with a mahogany striker. I was very pleased considering this is the first one. It actually sounds great as well.

That looks real nice. I am going to send a picture of it to my father - he will like it too.

Sure looks nice. Don't know what they are suppose to sound like, but I like the looks of that one. Looks like you've been making them for years. Brian

Nice work Greg! Did you drill the base out using a drill press or the index function on your lathe? Nice finish - not too glossy.

Looks good. Is mahogany the wood of choice for those or are there woods that give different types of turkey calls?

Now...with a Turkey Call, don't you need a Turkey Bonker to go with it?

Nice work Greg!:)

Very nice turkey call Greg! Now your mission is to make a call in every wood you can find ;)

Nice call Greg ! Well executed. However when I want a turkey, I just call my wife and tell her to get onehttp://joetonich.forumup.us/images/smiles/oregonian_scram.gif (http://javascript<b></b>:emoticon('[lv]'))

I just drilled the holes and then smoothed the edges with a countersink bit. I'm thinking about picking up a small forstner bit so that the edges won't be so jagged. I don't know anything about an indexing function, but I'd like to. Like Bonnie said, now I want to make a call out of every kind of wood possible!!! I've been asking everyone if they know where I can get wood like a crackhead.

About the bonker.......I tried to make #2 and broke it on the lathe.  I was smoothing up the bottom when it broke and went flying across the shop. Live and learn I guess:o

Greg, Don't waste your time making a bonker. Bonkers are the first stage of getting a newby to put the tools on the toolrest and to the wood. You are way past that stage! Continue on!

Turned out great! Just curious, is it two pieces with slate inbetween? Do you just pick a hole and turn with the striker to make a sound? Not sure how that type of call works, I've only seen the type where you have a bottom and scratch a piece of slate on top. Great job! Wish my first piece turned out as nice.
