Bob, this goes beyond being square. It is more of a "wave". Great job:) :)

I am new to turning but; HOW DID YOU DO THAT? Any special tools needed?

Great form Bob! Looks like the bowl is perfectly centered, same curve to each wing. Very nice work!

Did you put that in the microwave after turning or a medium hot oven? Just kidding, that curve looks so natural it looks like it melted. Really nice piece.

Bob, nice plate, you really nailed the grain.Arn't these fun to do. I want to dye one and then do the final turning and see what happens, but not sure if to dye the inside or the outside or the " flats" and then turn the " bowl" , what do you think?

Gorgeous piece! I love the curves in it... sometimes the curves on square edge bowls can look too extreme or exaggerated... these look perfect!

Well, gosh, thanks everyone! Sorry to take so long to respond but this working for a living really eats into my hobby time... :D
Gregg: I used a couple of bowl gouges and a couple of scrapers to turn this. The scrapers were mainly used to fair the curve on the underside of the corners. I can never seem to cut both sides of a cove with a gouge and have the curves meet perfectly in the middle. About the only oddball tool I used was one of those little Crown three point tools and that was just to round over the bead for the foot. I could have done the same thing with any of several other tools but I haven't had the three point tool very long and am still trying to figure out its quirks.
Paul: I have never used dye on anything so I really don't know which would be better. If you use a wood that the dye penetrates into it might be difficult to get a crisp line where the colour stops, but you would probably be better able to judge that.
Bernie: You are welcome to save the pictures, such as they are. I knocked the resolution way down on them for faster loading. If you want some clearer pics send me an e-mail and I will send them to you. I am still trying to get the photography part down.
Once again, thanks everyone!

Bob....You have my undying respect and admiration. I went ahead and tried to do it tonight. What a humbling experience. I was going along pretty good and thought I had the form coming out. Got a little cocky....well, here's the result.

I want to thank you though for the inspiration. My first may have been a failure...but it certainly won't be my last. Thanks!!:)
