So last week I got a 3/4" spindle for one of the shaper heads Todd gave me (TowMater on woodnet) from his major You Suckage Auction Score. Todd, thanks much for these shaper heads!! Hope you got the package I sent!

I cleaned up the shaper head (multi profile head no less) and installed it today. I had a 2X4 that had been used to test the jointer I sold today. Look at these!!!! These proliles were cut in one pass on a 2X4.
BTW I about fell back when I fired up the shaper with the head on it. So far all I had done was use the router bits. The sound is incredible when the spindled head gets up to speed. Almost SCARRY.
I think I will be glad when the feeder get here although I had no problems using it today.

I know nothing about shapers, so I'm amazed that you could remove that much stock in a single pass without blowing the workpiece to splinters or shooting it across the room and through the wall. How much strength did it take to push it through???

WAIT FOR THE FEEDER.

Shapers do great work. For a really nice finish I usually make my first pass and leave a little extra stock. I then make a finish pass doing a climb cut. On woods like cherry that burn easy a climb cut to finish leaves it nice and clean. Don't even think about doing a climb cut on a shaper without a power feeder.

Hi Mike: It is nice to see your machine in action. Have you checked your aluminum fence for being square to the table and also have you checked both halves of the aluminum fence for being in a straight line ( coplanar )? I had problems with mine to get them square with the table and for one fence to be in the same plane as the other ( i.e. to follow in a straight line with one another ). After some work and tinkering I did get them square to the table and to each other. I was just curious. Also when you tighten the fence see if it becomes concave ( i.e. put a straight edge vertically and check to see it there are any gaps. )

Actually it was not unlike a router. It was not bad at all. Now - the shaper has a really nice guard and hold down - very glad it has these. The sound a shaper makes is unbelieveable so I guess it was different than a router. An experience to use one for sure.
