Are the in and out feed tables necessary on a 16/32 open-end drum sander? To me they don't seem long enough to provide an advantage over roller stands.

All comments are welcome!

For me they're a must. My 16/32 is on casters and I cant imagine what a PITA it would be to have to level the roller stands each time on my less than level garage floor. Most of what I've used it for has been short enough not to need extra roller stand support so the tables have been a big convenience. If the unit was stationary though, the roller stand use would probably be much less of a pain.

They are a "must", but I'd suggest you consider making your own and make them folding. That's the single beef I have with my 22-44 Plus...the infeed and outfeed tables take up a lot of room when the machine is not in use since they don't fold up or down.

Another vote for a "must have". Had my 16/32 for a year before a bought mine. Afterwords kept asking myself why I waited so long to buy them.

If you are doing only veneer type pieces (<1/8"), you can get by without them. Otherwise, they are necessary.

Joe

P.S. they are attached to the sander which i purchased as well.

I've had my 16/32 since they first came out, I use roller stands when needed. (rarely). I did buy the tables about 5 yrs ago and never took them out of the box. I never run anything over 5' long.

I have never had good luck with my 16/32, with or without tables.

I can set it to take of 1/32 or less, flip the board over and leave the adjustment alone and it will dig into the board. Can't figure it out.
