Beautiful piece, Mike! Finish looks good too. How 'bout a photo from the side?

That is a beauty Mike. First of many off the mustard. I like it and the finish.

I knew that was going to be a real beauty when I saw it on the other post. Congradulations on the new lathe and the fine work you're doing with it. Beautiful patterns too.:D

Mike, please take my comments as only one person’s prospective. Your joinery, finish, and shape look very good. However, the overall design give the impression of two vessel designs added together. Other than the use of oak in both the top and bottom, the two sections don’t seem to relate to each other. Just a little maple placed near the top opening would have helped to “tie” things together. I am also concerned about the cross-grain connection between the two halves. In this size, the vessel wood movement might not produce too much stress on the joint, but in general it’s not a good idea to have such a large cross-grain joint.

I know I'm a really new guy here, but if you don't jump in, you can't go swimming.. It is a nice piece.. shows you care about your work.. finish is really nice. The above comments are not without merrit, but it's still a beautiful piece.

Mike - great form and finish! You'll have to let us know how it fairs with the cross-grain. Looking forward to your next HF!
