My fellow woodworkers,

I am a TV producer and have created a new woodworking show for public television called Woodworking Together. It’s the first new woodworking show to come to public television in more than 10 years and features the very first woman to host a true woodworking show, Boston-area cabinetmaker Gail O’Rourke.

Our show is geared toward woodworkers of all skill levels, with a special emphasis on beginners.

Woodworking Together will premiere nationwide on PBS stations in January of 2008. You can view the show’s “trailer” by clicking on the following link…

Happy woodworking!!!

Yoiks! Gail, get yourself a splitter and a guard! You don't want to be showing beginner woodworkers extremely dangerous techniques, plus I don't want to read a story about you getting hurt by kickback or an accidental amputation.

Good luck with the show, but please stress safety.

Congratulations Gail. Looks like it is going to be a good show. I do have one comment, and I don't know if it is good, bad, or indifferent. The style of the show from what I saw in the trailer seems to be virtually identitcal to NYW. Regardless, I look forward to it.

That's awesome. I'd like to see more woodworking shows on t.v., too.

Of course, I could have my own show, too, except it'd have to be called "Messing Up and Cussing." More like a bloopers reel thing than any truly educational programming:D

I sent our PBS an email requesting them to carry the show.Like I stated to them,Norm is great, but his projects are usually to advanced for the new sawdust maker. I can't figure out how Norm can build those things in 1/2 hour!

Way to go Gail! I just got done watching the previews. You were terrific, and you look alot better than Norm ever did! :D Really...nice job! How'd you manage to keep this so quiet?

Congratulations, Gail. I wish you the absolute best with your show. I hope one day people will talk about "Gail" the way they talk about "Norm" today.

Break a leg!

MikeAfter the Norm bashing a couple of weeks ago, I'm not sure that is such a good idea. Go get um, Gail!

Good Luck!

I, too, have emailed our local PBS stations, and will also add a note with the annual check we send. This is fund raising time for our PBS stations and I figure this is a good time to let them know what I would like to see in the programming.

Gail gets another vote from me. I have a hard time even finding reruns here in Vegas. I used to see Marks and Hout on DIY but they are gone now. I hope this new show is popular.

Gail,
Please accept my congratulations on your successful marketing effort! I don’t watch TV, but recently someone told me that it is really big these days. Should this be true, many, many woodworkers, and especially novices who did not learn safe machinery operation from an experienced person will be looking to you for guidance. Above any other message you could share with your viewing audience, I think safe tool operation is a good place to start.

John Fry

Congratulations on the new show. Gail is an accomplished woodworker, I have seen her post her work here on the creek.

Best of luck to both of you, I wish you great success.

Hi Gail,

Your post wasn't there when I posted the first time. Do Creekers get priorty tickets for the tapings? :D

It is good to see you. I will send an email asking for the show on the Pittsburgh and youngstown stations I get.

Gail, congratulations on your new show, I look forward to seeing it.

I have to agree with Joe Dusel, please demonstrate woodworking with all the factory guards and safety equipment, or equivalent on your show.

Gail, I was very dissapointed to see your tablesaw without a splitter and guard. I don't know why this is done on TV, do pople not believe that the saw is actually cutting when the blade is hidden from view?

Anyway, congrats, and I wish you sucess with the new show.

Regards, Rod Sheridan

It's great to see a new show coming on the horizon, and it's really good to see Gail doing it. I think it will be a winner.

I watched the preview, and I was pleased. I wasn't really happy with the MTV-like hand camera work, but overall it was very good.

Gail congratulations. I saw this news on the Ridgid forum and didn't find it here right away. Very much looking forward to a Broadcast on woodworking. Can't be enough of that.

BTW, I did send an e-mail to KCPT in Kanasas City asking for support of your show. Here is the response so far.

Great little clip. I enjoyed it.

Lately I've been seeing a T.V. commercial where a guy is cutting a piece of mahogany wood, that is for an electric guitar, on a table saw with no guards and the piece is so curved that it is 1/2" off the table top at the saw blade. YIKES!
Please put safety at the top of the list on your new show!
I only wish Jan 2008 was here already.:)

I hope for your show to be a great success.

I'll second that motion!!! :D

Ben, drop a line out to Keith Outten and Aaron Koehl and see if they'd be willing to setup a "Gail Fanclub Forum". :D (Hey, maybe we could even get some "insider information" for upcoming shows and such!!!) :D

I will add my congratulations to both Creekers on this exciting show.

I am just wondering though, there seem to be almost toooo... many good wishers here. We arn't just a bunch of frustrated tool models and actors are we!

Do we need a "Woodworking with the Stars" section on the forum? A place where we could post portfolios with our tools? Yea, might be verry amusing *G* and who knows someone else might get "discovered'.
