I am in need of some help as usual. I have made quite a few of egg kaleidoscopes successfully. My wife wants a larger (longer) one and does not want me to purchase it from a local gallery but to make it myself. I have been unable to find a source for one of the longer scopes. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Harry

There is a discussion of kaleidoscopes on SMC at http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=36946. The best plans I have seen come from Jim Duxbury at http://www.duxterity.com/. He used to live near me but in NC now.

Harry,

I am Jim Duxbury and I have designed and built Kaleidoscopes for some years now. Last summer I won best of show at the Alamance County Fair and also best of show at the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh with a large Kaleidoscope.

My web site may be confusing. It shows the Resp-O-Rator, Resp-O-Rator Jr, and Elegant Creations. Many stop there and I am all three, but click on the Elegant Creations to get to my gallery and the Kaleidoscopes.

More than anything though, if you have any questions or need help just email me. Mark it Kaleidoscopes so I don't delete it. I don't open everything.

These things make great gifts and sell for $175.00 and up. I have 5 going through the shop right now and am scheduled to demonstrate at 6 wood working and woodturning clubs in North and South Carolina. They have become quite a large part of my turning and I should be happy I guess but to do the same thing more than two or three times---It's just not me.

Hope this helps.
