I have 55 acres of woods, a sawmill, plenty of oak, maple, poplar, pine, etc. What I want to ask about is some of the unusual types that also grow here. Locust, (thorny) sasafras, dogwood, buckeye, silver maple, boxwood, and others. (retired and new to woodworking) Any particular project that these may be suited for?
thanx....R.B.

Ron, much of the latter ones you list lend themselves quite nicely for turning!!! :)

I saw a workbench made of black locust once. It was pretty impressive and weighed as much as a sherman tank.

Sassafras and buckeye are sometime used for carving. Dogwood is pretty and makes good wooden items for use since it get slicker with use.
