Does anyone know where I can find a good site or article on chisels? I would like to get farmiliar with different types and their uses.

I like the overview at Tools for Working Wood:

http://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/Merchant/merchant.mvc?Screen=NEXT&StoreCode=toolstore&nextpage=/extra/chiselguide.html

I wanted to try dovetails and other joinery. I bought a set of Irwin chisels to learn on ($32 at Home Depot for set of 4). I started figuring out what was important and bought a set of 6 "Two Cherries" bench chisels, which I love ($127 for set of 6 at Craftsman Studio).

My second need was for a mortise chisel. After reading many opinions, I bought 2 of the Ashley Iles mortise chisels. I am extremely satisfied, but probably only needed 1. They are about $75 or 2 for $136.

Those have satisfied me for my first year, making many many boxes and a few furniture pieces. I expect to look at carving tools in the future.

Search the threads for Bob Smalsers posts. He was published in Fine Wood Working about a year ago. One of the resident chisel experts.
