I'm replacing all the doors in my house with solid six panel doors. I have one which is giving me fits. When closed, the bottom strike side meets the stop however the top does not. I've kicked the lower hinge side of the jam in. Now the strike side of the door meets the stop from top to bottom. But now the lower hinge side of the jam is no longer flush with the wall by about a 1/2 inch. How am I going to apply the caseing to that? I've thought about crushing the sheetrock to level it with the jam but half an inch seems to be a bit much. Plus, on the other side of the door, the jam is proud of the wall by 1/2 inch. The door closes and latches fine, is plumb and level. I just do not know how I'm going to put the caseing around it. Any ideas?

Thanks, T

Couple a ways to skin this cat.

Do it right, get the sawzall.

But first square your jamb using 1x2 furring.

Span head to leg and leg to leg on the bottom.

Cut the nails and rehang the door.

Don't wanna do that?

Tapered extension piece 1/2 to nothing 80 inch's long where

the jamb is racked in, with a corresponding piece on the

wall side where its racked out.

I hope this is easier to read then it is to write.

What Per said or just set the stops so they are about a credit card away from the door and dont look back. You should be able to adjust the depth of the hinge mortises (from the edge of the jamb ) so the door is flush or close.
