Trying to be frugal an my Mission dresser project. It requires 10 pulls for the drawers that will likely run me around $50 if not more. Since I already have the WO for them, I was wondering if anyone would like to share the technique for making these: http://www.rockler.com/findit.cfm?page=514

Thanks,
Ed

From the looks of it, you could make it with a bandsaw and router table. I would first cut the blank to size and cut out the made. Then you need a 45 degree router bit to rout out the underside angles. Flip it over and do the top the same way. Not sure if this is the best way, but it is something that I think could work with little problems. To be safer and fingers clear of bits, you could tape the handle to a lager board to act as a handle. Good luck with this and let us know which ever way you make it.

Thanks for the reply Al. I know that the pic angle doesn't show it, but from what I've seen from another angle the post seem more like a cove as opposed to a 45 degree angle. Your idea should work with a cove bit though. Any idea on how to best cut the angles on the top?

Thanks, Ed

Hi Ed,

The Stickley side table I built for the November 2006 issue of Popular Woodworking has a similar handle. I think the best way to do these is to bandsaw the basic shape, cutting it from a block big enough to keep your fingers a safe distance from the blade. Then smooth out the saw marks with a good rasp. I'd recommend the Gramercy rasps from Tools for Working Wood. The round side of the larger rasp will match the cove on the underside of the handle.

hope this helps,

Bob Lang

I'd try cutting it like narrow molding - take a larger piece, set TS angle and rip strip , then flip and rip again so both top angles are cut. Then to CMS and cut ends. After that router to finish inner arch and pyramids. These folks also sell and seem to have a better picture http://houseofantiquehardware.com/s.nl/it.A/id.3682/.f (No idea of quality or service - just found them in a Google). Good luck

Thanks for all the ideas. I'm one of the few without a router table, but I do have a bandsaw and tablesaw. I guess this gives me a reason to make a quicky router table.

Take care,
Ed
