Well, the earlier one was from UPS. This one came courtesy of USPS:D :D :

This is Andy Hoyt's gorgeous hackmatack HF from the auction. His note said to open it in the shop, but I just couldn't resist---so I got a box full of Andy's curlies all over my office:). But that's okay, I just put them back in the box.

That's not all Andy sent---I also got a genuine bottle of MOXIE!!!! :D :D Now to get up the nerve to taste it. After all the bad-mouthing that others have done, I'm not sure that I really want to try it...but I will. I'm brave.

Thanks, Andy, so much. I may just keep the Moxie as a souvenir of someone very special.

Nancy, DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT open the bottle of Moxie. Congrats on the turning !! You have a great collection started. Your generosity in this auction is appreciated for sure.

I wonder if Andy's wife knows he is spreading his Moxie about the world.

Nancy, if you insist on tasting that nuclear gutrocket juice, then by all means make sure your life insurance is paid up and your will is up to date. Best case scenario is that you'll end up looking like Andy. That alone should persuade you to abstain.

You've been warned...

Oh yeah - congrats on the Hoyt round...:D

Okay, I'm convinced - I won't open the bottle. I'll just set it on a shelf and look at it---and hope it doesn't explode????

The funny thing is that I was SURE that Moxie was some made-up something or other that Andy had conjured up, or his nickname for some other beverage of choice - I had no clue that it was a real product - no telling where it was bottled, but "produced under the authority of the Monarch Company, Inc., Atlanta, GA 30342." I can't believe a Southerner may have invented this...gives my part of the country a bad name.

If you DO decide to open it, please take all your turnings into another room. The fumes alone are toxic enough to peel the finish.......http://joetonich.forumup.us/images/smiles/luv4yorkies_stinky.gif

Only one bottle, Bernie. I'm sure he has plenty, especially now that the medic won't let him drink it any more.:(

What a bunch of weenies!

Come on Nancy!

Big tough New Mexico girl and fellow Navy person (IIRC) should take advantage of this golden opportunity to show all those wimpy Flying Curlers just how it's done - in style and with panache.

Just heed the advice I tendered in the PM. :D

Moxie was invented in Union, Maine
One could even call it the earliest form of Viagra.:D

OMG!!

After reading that, now I know I'm not going to open that bottle! Bitters into root beer?? Ugh. So that's why Andy recommended a large glass of gin as a chaser? :D :D

Think I'll just keep it for posterity--I don't want the paint peeling off my walls or the finish off my turnings. :D

you should try it. I grew up drinking Moxie in Massachusetts and only have it when I go home but still consider it a treat. it is actually pretty good, but like root beer or birch beer it is an acquired taste. here is georgia we are only allowed to drink coca-cola products.

Ben Yahoooo!

I knew there had to be at least one other sane person in the creek.

The strangest thing has happened--I got an e-mail from the Creek telling me that Hilel Solomen had posted a reply here, but when I clicked on the link and came here to see if there were more, Hilel's post isn't here! Anyone know what happened??

As a mod, I can read deleted posts. Hilel said that he once sampled Moxie and became a fanatic consumer of the stuff back when his family first emigrated to the US. So much so that his parents bought the company. :D

But why was the post deleted? I'm confused.
