I have had the Idea making one of these for a while, finally got around to doing it. I'm pleased with the form on this piece, but not so much with the stand, hope to make a new one for this one soon.
This piece was so much fun I think I will work on a series of these, and maybe incorporate a few more Ideas I have.
Bradford Pear.
Measures 10" tall X 4 1/2" wide.
Antique oil, buffed.

Jim, this piece is just stunning! The stand is fine too, IMHO. Don't change a thing.

Jim,
That form looks like fun to turn the outside, and a bi5tch to hollow.
And it sure is pretty, especially laying down on its side.
You might make a simple stand for it horizontally, so it dows not roll around.

You Da man Jim
What a beautiful piece. What is the stand made of? Also wouldn't care to know the metod you used to mount it (face plate, chuck) Looks like to me when you part it off there would have to be hand sanding invoved:confused: I'm trying to learn.

LOVE IT!!! the stand suits it in my opinion.

How did you do the "base"?? what methods were used? I've seen these in some of the Perth Galleries, but never thought of making one...till now:D

Great work!!

Outstanding! I think a stand to display it tilted on it's side would look awesome also.

Jim, first of all, great HF and kudos on the creativity! Also I like Travis' idea of a stand to hold it horizontally. Now let me offer an edgy idea. How about a stand in the shape of a person holding the vessel sideways as if pouring from it? Dunno...that might be more trouble than you want to go through; the trick would be to ensure that the vessel itself remains the primary object of attention. Just thinking out loud. Again, great piece!

Jim , Very beautiful form and wood !! I was wondering when you were going to incorperate you welding skills in the finished peice not just in the tooling.
Again , very nice peice.

I would prefer another stand. The current one will probably damage the finish too in a little while.

I like the idea of displaying it on its side or tilted.

BTW, AWESOME piece!!!

Cool piece... Kinda reminds me of Trent Bosche's stuff. I personally like the stand, but I also wonder if you would have a problem with the piece being damaged by the stand eventually. You really did an amazing job!

Hey Jim. Not trying to hijack your post but I was wondering how are you setting up your background for your pictures? That really shows off your work nicely.

Jim I really like this Bradford pear you've made it look marvelous. I have had some thoughts about making metal stands also looks like I may have to work one out. Great job.

Thanks all for the nice comments!
This stand was purchased, I have a show/contest coming up on the 10th and I don't have the time to make one right at this moment and I'm trying to get a few more pieces finished for it. But I will be making my own stand for this one later and for the others that I plan to do.
Yes it has the potential for causing damage to the piece I have a plan for that when I make the homemade ones, as long as it sits in the stand and is not taken in and out often I think it will be ok for now.
This hollow form was turned just like any other one I do, I turned away the tenon to create the tip of the cone. The Vac chuck comes in real handy for pieces like this, but it can be done using other methods.
