Found a Nova DVR that is 4 yrs. old he thought. He said it could be 5 yrs. old but didn't think so. The guy is 91 years old said I would have first chance at it if his son didn't take it. He is wanting $1300 and he is not going down he said. He said if I picked it up he might go $1200. Is this to much for a unit that old or should a guy take it? Don't know if it will happen but if it is a good deal if he offers I would like to get it. Otherwise I will need to save a couple more years for the DVR XP.

Bernie,

At that price, I will just save a bit more and get a new Jet 1642.

Not a terrible deal, but I've seen better. I don't know that I'd go to a jet but you can get a DVR XP for under 2K and if you are already spending 1300 its not a huge jump.

I can't say much about the dvr but I had the nova 3000 in the late 90's and gave about 900 for it, the next year they went to 1400. I think that nova lathes will year by year keep going up and up??? They have good specs and now days pretty good power and the guys that are going to buy them are the ones that want a good lathe but can't afford the oneway, stubby, etc. That is why I bought the nova in the first place. If this lathe is in real good shape, I don't think it is a bad deal 'cause when you order a new one at almost 2,000 with shipping probably 2,200 ???
I just wouldn't expect to wait until next year to buy one or to see what design they come up with next because nova lathes are getting higher and higher year by year. Just my two pennys

Evening Bernie. If you're interested in the DVR, their newist version lists for 1999.99 and on March 3, Woodcraft is having a 10% sale. The DVR is included which makes the price 1800.00. that makes the 4 year old, older version only 500.00 lower.

Just my opinion.

Thanks for the replies. Maybe it would have been a good deal if it was say $900 or $1000. I am going to hold off and just keep saving. I just had no idea what these lathes were selling for and didn't want to let a bargin go by.

Bernie,
Does he have any goodies that come with it (a chuck, tools, or a truckload of wood in John H's case)? It might make for a better deal that way.
