This was a fun one. Octagon, rustic oak, rustic rail & V slat doors, peeled worm etched poplar railings & supports. About 3 months of work including install. I had a helper on the install. There were also 2 cherry vanities & linen closet doors.

Very nice! Working with natural-shaped wood like that has to be a lot harder than the square stuff, especially when it comes to picking pieces.
What does the outside of the house look like? It doesn't look like a log cabin from the inside.

I have a shaper head that does a "V" grooved, tongue & groove joint much like car siding. I run all the stiles, glue them together to make panels. Then I size the panels to length. Then "V" groove the top & bottom of the panels, and the top & bottom rails. glue them up then size to width. Last I bevel the outside edges of the finished door. Does that make any sense?

That sure IS a lot of work Mark. Great job dude! Personally, I like it all. The stair rails are really cool though. The cabinets are awesome. So you only had help on the install and it took about 3 months? That is quite an accomplishment. Kudos!

Mark,
Very creative, just beautiful! I love the way you integrated the natural railing with the rest of the work.
That looks like one lucky client. Tell us a little about the house. It reminds me of a mountain cabin, or some other nice escape.

With that big mortise and tenon joinery, it is probably sturdier and safer than most commercial railings

It's a $550K home on a peninsula on an area lake. It's log sided & a very cool design. The kitchen was aprox $30K and the log work around $12K. My buddy Dennis Peterson did most of the log work while I built the cabinets then we worked together on the install. I think we make a good team. I guess I'll have to go back & get a pic of the finished exterior, but here's one of the side facing the lake, in process. The kitchen is located behind the middle window of the octagon.

Mark, you should be very proud of your work. It is fantastic!
If I could every afford a house like that, I'd have you do the woodwork!
Well done!
