I like the looks of the rosewood while it is on the dark material. Both pens look nice.

I like the look of the rose wood one but I think the nib end should be tapered down a little more to macth the nib dia. but other than that they look good

Yep...I like them both. The wood matches the kits nicely and the shapes are good....looks like they'd fit in the hand well. It is advisable to get those edges right down to the bushings so they interface with the nib and other kit parts flush though. Not only for asthetics, but also to protect the wood....but that just takes practice.;) Nice job! :)

Since basswood is soft, did you do anything special in turning it?

Ya, basswood pretty much turns like pine. For this paticular set I soaked the wood in Watco wood hardener and filed with CA as needed. I also made a small dish out of basswood just to see how it would turn, came out OK actually.
