Folks,

I'm working on an 18" diameter end-table top, and want to have a slight lip around the edge, so plan to route about 1/16" from the entire top except the rim. I'll rotate, using a jig, over the router on the router table. What's the best bit to get a nice flat cut? Would it be a hinge mortiser?

Thanks much,
Jack

Any flat bottom straight bit should do. Your bit mentioned should be fine. As always test it on scrap of the same material. If possible, cut this little rabbet before finalizing the size of the table. That is, rough cut your circle to within about an 1/8" of the desired line, cut your rabbet and then using the same jig (after adjustment) edge-trim your top.
