My new Colorado is a crew cab so it has the shorty bed. The tailgate is designed to have an intermediate stop to hold a sheet of plywood flat, but that won't work to carry longer stuff like pipe, conduit, 10 & 12' lumber, etc. I've been thinking about making a bed extender like the one Keith Outten made in this thread (http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?t=23906&highlight=truck+extender) but yesterday's Harbor Freight ad had one for $23. I went and looked at it today and while it is lighter duty than Keith's, it appears to be plenty strong so I brought one home. I'm tempted to buy a few more just for the steel tubing at that price :D.

Matt,
I bought my Colorado when they first came out a couple of years ago. Been looking for something similar ever since.

Let us know how this work out.

Matt, I bought the HFT bed extender and it was a good unit for what I used it for...the Tundra Access Cab Limited I used to drive also had the shorter bed. (6.5'...8' to the end of the tailgate when it was down) I had no problem carting 12' lumber with the extender. I recently passed it on to Robert Tarr to use with his pickup...it still looks like brand-new.

Thanks for the post Matt.
I was just about to look for a bed extender for my 5½' F150 SuperCrew bed.

Off to HF this afternoon.
