Okay...I think I have found the e-mail setting for the camera.
Here goes. The material is red oak and most of it came from used oak pallets...

Ray,
Great looking blanket chest and it came from a bunch of used oak pallets.
A great promotion for recycling... :)

Dang Ray, that's a nice looking chest. I can't believe you got the wood from pallets. All the pallets we get around here are pine and pretty crummy at that.
Thanks for posting,
Jim

You mean you destroyed perfectly good pallets to make that?

It's beautiful. Did you find any of the dreaded buried nails or staples in the boards?

It's worth killing a few pallets now and then for such.:D

Ray,

I have done the pallet wood thing a time or two so I know all the hard work you went through just to get lumber ready. Those nails they put pallets together with are a bear to pull!

The chest looks great! I like the moulding top and bottom. Fantastic job.

I like the blanket chest. I think that SHMBO would like for me to build one also.

Hey Ray! Nice chest.

Next time someone asks what kind of wood it is, call it "PALLAY" wood, or perhaps how the French would pronounce "PALLET".

I'll be making one shortly, out of walnut, but a little more like an antique tool chest to be used as a coffee table.

Todd.

Why don't you tell us the secret for getting the nails out of those pallets ..... I've got 6-7 lying outside that I just haven't had the fortitude to tackle. Last effort involved a chainsaw and a lot of short boards.

Beautiful chest. I am in the process of making one for my daughter's 16th birthday. The design I decided upon is very similar to yours, (stile, rail, and raised panels). I hop that mine turns out as good looking as yours.

Wow! Ray that is a very nice looking blanket chest. I like the look of Red Oak. I think the LOML would be happy with one just like it. Very nice job.:)
