Here are three chisel handles that were made from cherry and finised with tung oil.
58006 58007

The two black gouges in 5/16 and 3/8. The handles measure approximately 12 and 14 inches long. The 1/2" flat nosed scraper is again, approximately 14 inches long.

Even though these are smaller tools, I made the handles longer for my comfort. I'm not a big fan of short handled tools.

I think the bottom of the flat nosed scraper handle looks the best.

Thanks for looking:) .

Very nice work George, mine never look like they match. I also like my handles a little longer than most.

Aw Man! Those are great George! My homemade handles are like limbs....leaves torn off...roughly sanded....sorta round. Nice work!!

Very nice handles, George. What did you do for the ferrules?

Nice handles George! I like them all but the middle one is my favorite.

Larry, you can buy ferrules from a number of places; Highland and Lee Valley are two good sources.

Hi George,

Nice looking handles there. I got one of the non-handled gouge sets from PSI for xmas and am in the process of doing the same thing. Nice post!

Great handles George, I like you prefer the longer one with the scraper.

Good looking handles. Reminds me that I need to go out and make some more tools...

Nice handles George. They are fancier than what I make for myself but I lack patience. Besides, one of the reasons I make my own handles is my dislike of varnish on a handle. My favorite handle finish is oil from my hands :-) On the other hand, I do not think they would sell well finished that way. I also like them long and strong, especially for face plate work and for chisels. You know a friend gave me a couple of industrial planer blades about 2" across, 18" long and 3/8" thick. What a set of chisels those would make for newels and such. Hmmm, maybe some more handles... thanks George.
