Paiting Repertoires?

I am looking to paint some childrens furniture that is made out of poplar. I was wondering what some methods and products you all have used sucessfully. I want the finish to be durable and look commercial not like dad made it so please feel free to share your wood painting repertoires.

For brushing, Sherwin Williams Proclassic Waterborn Interior Acrylic Gloss Enamel gets kudos from our resident painting pros. I spray and use Target Coatings USL or Fuhr International 9100 acrylics. Jeff Jewitt at Homestead Finishing is a good source and he can tint them to the color you need.
