Today was the day I've been waiting for since getting back from the hostible.

No one home but Janine and I; snowing like mad out; lotsa coffee; and nothing else to do. So we danced and danced.

Yahoo! I remembered how.

Andy,
It looks like you got her a little too drunk and spun her a few too many times because she threw up all over the room.:D :) Did you ask her to clean up after herself or did you just hold her hair while she blew and tell her you'd clean up in the morning?

Good to see you back MIA (Moxie in Action)!

Glad you're feeling better.

Thanks guys. It really was a great feeling to get back to it.

That's a sopping wet hunk of rock maple from a score I helped a new turner from my chapter acquire. He needed my chain saw services and it's really kinda funny how some of the pieces ended up getting cut too big for his mini. :D

I'll have some more pics one day down the road when it's all purtied up and spit shined. The bowl that is; Janine doesn't like getting all gussied up and stuff.

A wonderful mess you've made MOA sir.

Alas, you didn't post a pic of the turner. Covered in shavings I think he was. And a pretty sight I imagine it was. :D

Glad to see you back at it.

Just like riding a bike, eh?

Now that you've over those jitters I think we ought to look into what makes a man give his lathe a name like Janine. Was there perhaps someone in you life, long ago, beautiful, sleek, and smooth, but cold as steel?

Curt...You should know better than try to figure out what's goes on in Andy's mind. It would just scare the poop out of us normal people.

....... I think we ought to look into what makes a man give his lathe a name like Janine.......

It's simple -- Janine is in the first stanza of the well known song --

Turning Against the Wind

Was it just yesterday
Or was it long ago
Janine was lovely it was the lathe of my dreams
There in the wood shop with the stebcenter running slow
And the gouges that I used
The piles of wood that I turned
Caught like a wild man out of control
'Til there was nothing left to turn and no room more for bowls
And I remember what I said to myself
How I swore that it never would end
I remember how I held the skew so tight
Wish I had known more of what I didn't know then

Against the wind
I was turnin' against the wind
Sucked into the vortex, I was turnin'
Against the wind

The years rolled slowly past
And I found myself turnin’ more
Surrounded by more tools I thought would help me turn
I found myself further and further from my home
Searching for more wood to turn
There were oh so many bowls
I was living to turn and turning to live
I was worried about paying and more how much I owed

Turning eight spindles a minute for hours at a time
Breaking all of the bowls that would break
I began to find myself searching
Shopping for gouges again and again

Against the wind
I was still turning against the wind
Found myself shoppin’ for a lathe against the wind

Well those learning days are past me now
I've got more spindles to think about
Deadlines and commitments
Coves to leave in, beads to leave out

Against the wind
I'm still sandin' against the wind
I'm older now but still sandin' against the wind
Well I'm older now and still sandin'
Against the wind
Against the wind
Against the wind

Still turnin’
I'm still turnin’ against the wind
I'm still sandin’
I'm still sandin’ against the wind
Still turnin’
Turnin’ against the wind
Sandin’ against the wind
See the dang fool turn
Watch the dang fool turn
Watch the dang fool sandin’
He'll be sandin’ against the wind
Let the old guy turn
Let the old guy turn
He'll be sandin' against the wind
Against the wind ...

From the collective wisdom of this fine group of artisans and craftsman - this is the fruit of your advise: shower curtain the lathe area, ignore until it's elbow deep, sweep/shovel to door and power blow the mess into the neighbors yard. I like it.:D
