Have you ever order hardwoods from Niagara Lumber in NY? Their website is www.niagaralumber.com (http://www.niagaralumber.com). If so, were you pleased with the wood? I am considering them as a source for some of my hardwoods.

I purchased some red oak from them over a year ago. Many boards were in the 4-inch wide category. But they were all select grade. No knots or bad spots. I would saw 90 percent usable. In was shipped UPS to my door. In comparison, I bought wood from Wall Lumber in NC where I got mostly 6-inch or wider boards. But some of those boards were pretty bad. One 8 inch wide by 10 foot long had 60 percent waste.

I bought several bd ft each of mahogany, hickory, cherry, and walnut. All came UPS with no problems.

By the way anyone in Maine should take a look at Maine Coast lumber. They have some of the best looking cherry, mahogany, and maple plywood I've seen anywhere. They also have some great marine grade woods on hand.

Here is another place you may want to check with, prices are excellent you will need to get a quote for shipping. Option of rough or surfaced pricing. http://www.dansvilledimension.com/lumber.html Will custom cut at your request. They are about 12 miles from my home.

My 2cents worth... I have been buting from Seneca Hardwoods ( http://www.senecahardwoods.com/ ) in West-central PA. Very pleased with the prices. I live about 1 hr away so I pick up my orders. You can buy mill runs or select.

I live in South Eastern PA (Phoenixville-Pottstown Area). Have been buying from them for 15 yrs. Best drawer material 1/2 Beech. Higher quality than other 'drawer material'. On the phone, the reps will advise (at least I have) you if the quality of the lumber is not up to standards and advise another choice. Last year (fall) I wanted some Birdseye for a 7 drawer chest. Was advised that it did not have an outstanding grain and advised to get some curly maple. It was beautiful! Anyone coming into my shop and seeing the final project has remarked about the beauty of the wood without prompting!

I've purchased lumber from Niagara several times over the years. I've been satisfied with their service and their hardwoods. Prices include planing on 2 sides, and for me (I live in Maryland), free delivery by UPS.

I've always heard good things about them, although I have not been a customer.
