Hey all, I got a small blank of Leopard wood and was wondering if anyone had turned it and did the rays ,when sanded , (edge and end grain) produce small check cracks running parallel with the rays over the whole piece?I know heat usually does this but i had my dust collector pulling outside air over it as it was sanded and the surface did not heat up significantly. This is on the outside , I have not started the inside yet as I am hoping I am not in for a disapointment as this piece is for a private collection and do not look forward to having to buy the forest to get a 2 x 6 in bowl...I be much obliged for any insight.

I've turned leopard wood for turkey calls and one small bowl. I never had any problems with it cracking on me. I just don't care for turning it, unless special ordered lol My nickname for it is 'The wood from he**'
