Hello all, just wanted to post a pic of my first laser job. I wanted to start out with something simple so I made this name plate for a co-workers desk. I'll spring it on him tomorrow! Personally, I like the way the smoke damage gives the letters a kind of glow so I left it there. I think I have the fever now though, I want to laser everthing in sight....is this normal? Here kitty, kitty......

Jeff, the job looks good, love the stand you have made to hold it. For me though, I'd give it a light sanding and a brush on some wax, it looks like you have forgotten to finish it.

Yes, it is completely normal Jeff. My wife warned me about engraving, in no particular order, cabinet doors, glassware, the dog, any part of her vehicle, dining room chairs, flatware, plates, cups, saucers...well, you get the idea. :)

So far I've not done any of the above though I have found lots of other material to work with. Have fun, experiment, you'll make some mistakes, we all do at first. The trick is to learn from them.

Great start Jeff. I'm sure your co-worker will be very happy.

Try a strip of masking tape over the area you're engraving and then remove once done. It will keep the unwanted smoke off the rest of the wood.

Soon everyone will know you've got a laser... you'll have gifts for everyone :)

(great practice)
