Greetings all

I have a Leigh D3 dovetail jig, which gets used from time to time - not as much as I would like, but it does get used. I get a little frustrated with the wee little plastic stops for aligning the wood square to the jig. So I started lusting after the D4. But then I noticed the upgrade kit, which is a whole lot less money and hassle than selling the D3 to buy a D4. Has anyoone done this, and if so, how do you like it?

Thanks.

Bill

I've seen a number of posts over the years from folks who have upgraded earlier versions to D4 state with good success and I agree it's the way to go rather than buying something new.

I just upgraded an old D1258R to D4 specs recently. It was easy and relatively inexpensive. The improvements are well worth the cost. The cam-action levers are much easier to operate vs. the old winder knobs, and the larger, more stable, metal side stops are great improvments. The D3 to D4 upgrade is basically the same as this I understand.

I love the fact that the newer Isoloc/F2/M2 jigs all fit on the old D1258R perfectly - I guess it's testament to the good design of the jig that the basic design has not changed in over 20 years! I'm also looking forward to getting the new upcoming VRS (vacuum and router support) attachment - that looks like it'll make life easier!

I would not hesitate to do the upgrade if I were you Bill.

Cheers,

Thanks guys! Based on these and some other responses I have gotten, it looks like the upgrade kit is in the works.
