If you haven't replaced your guide bearings yet, be prepared to. I had a grand total of maybe 10 minutes on my new 22401 when it started slinging grease.

Metal seal completely gone

Use the 22401's included hex wrench for removal

Everything will be reused except for the bearing itself

The biggest lump of grease left by the bearings

All of the bearings are removed in the same fashion

The tube of 10 new bearings were bought on Ebay.

Reuse the hardware including the sleeve

Reassemble in reverse order

All I have to do is replace the bottom bearings and I'll be done!

Jim, thanks for the information and pictures. It looks like a fairly simple change. I'll print your post and have it ready when I have to change my bearings.

This would be a case where you DON'T want the manufacturer to send you replacements. You already know they're sub-standard. Good pictorial and great heads-up.

So that explains the dime size puddle of grease behind the upper thrust bearing on my 22401? I thought this may be just grease on the bearings for shipping. I have about an hour of cut time on it. Where can I purchase a set of bearings locally?

Any skate shop or store that carries skateboard or inline skate supplies. They all use the same size.

Bore: 8mm
Diameter: 22mm
Width: 7mm

I think locally they'll cost roughly $15 - $20 for a kit. I paid just under $9 shipped on Ebay.
