There is/was a company called Acorn Design in San Gabriel Calif that made maple workbenches. Any way to get in contact with them. I tried several web searches to no avail and I can only conclude they have (a) gone out of business, (b) acquired by another company, or (c) operate under a different name. Does anyone know? Thanks.

William, The correct answer is (a) GONE OUT OF BUISINESS. The whole story is in the Workbench Book. Seems the business worked out for a while but they ,if I recall, couldn't keep it up the pace. The owners went on to other woodworking pursuits.

Hello William. I had never heard of Acorn Design until you asked the question. Then I did a google search on "acorn design" and workbench. I found 27 hits. The most informational, at least to me, is this one (http://www.nicks.ca/AF.work.html). It looks like a real nice bench project.

Michael - Thanks for the information on the company. Pretty much what I expected after doing a business search in San Gabriel and various searches on the company, address, city etc.

Ken - You're right, you can find web hits on this design (even Amazon offers the plan design for sale). I was looking for the company as I have found one of their benches for sale.

While there really is nothing wrong with my homemade bench, to someday have a beautiful comercially made bench all out of hard maple would be a real pleasure to own. Just tying to figure out a fair value to make an offer.

I read somewhere that Peter Shapiro went to work for the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. He was hired to run the workshop at the museum. Sounded like a dream job to me.

Im suprised no-one has one of these here.Ive looked at many sites at workbenches and half have the acorn workbench. One says the plan has sold over 280000 copies i think.
This is the bench im thinking about building. Does anyone have any insight to what this bench is lacking? I build mostly tables.

The last post above mine , you can order both vise kits ,(no dog holes), for 285 with shipping and plan. Not sure if thats a good price for two vices of that style.

Thanks

This is also the design used at the American Sycamore Woodworkers Retreat. They have other classes too.
