My neighbor was kind enough to drop off some scraps of lumber and I need to ID it. Is it teak?

It'd be helpful if you could take a couple more pics....closeups. Little hard to tell but it looks like cherry to me.

Definitely not cherry... I guess the sun was setting and the orangie glow messed up the picture. I'll have to wait until tomorrow to take a close-up.

From that picture it looks like cherry to me too.

Looks like great, straight-grained stuff. My guesses: hickory, ash, or perhaps elm. If it's elm, be careful -- tends to twist and do funny things. Does it have a strong, sour aroma? Teak, for what it's worth, contains a lot of silica -- very hard on tools. Gritty.

Whatever it is, it sure looks like a few board feet more than *scraps* :)

The grain looks like it could be Teak. Throw a little water or mineral spirits on it before you take your next picture.

Teak is very expensive. It could be a great score.

I agree that it does not look like teak in the photo but then the setting sun has caused some color shift. If it is teak you got a deal- I paid $16/bf for teak to do some boat repairs.

What does your neighbor do? Certain occupations could help narrow it down.
