The recent post on thickness planers has returned me, once again, to the thought of upgrading. With this thought I opened up my Grizzly catalog and quickly decided that if I did upgrade, I'd buy the 20" model G1033X with spriral cutterhead. Have any of you seen this unit or have it? It seems to be a really good value. 900 lbs of planer for $2395 with sprial cutterhead. Does this unit ever go on sale? I haven't purchased from Grizzly before.

I also have the 1033 four blade, and have not had any issues. Follow the maintenance schedules and all will be good.

An alternative to the spiral cutterhead is to get the Esta Dispos-a-blade system. About $750 less expensive, and gives you quick-change knives. Both are probably good paths. I haven't seen as much advantage with the spiral cutterheads as others have, at least not worth doubling the cost of the planer.

Hi Neil

I see You are in Canada. I think Grizzly doesn't ship north of the 49th, unfortunately. I'm sure there are ways to get around this, but something to be aware of.

Hi Curt,

I know this too. I plan to pick it up in the US and drive it across the line.
