It's a clever series of shaped wires which can be used to clamp/brace a work piece. http://www.perfectmate.nl/
I think it would work so long as you are only putting force into your work from one direction.

Yes, that does seem to be it's achilles heel. But I can certainly see where it would be a very convenient set of extra hands.

I'd have to agree with Greg. Besides, what tool doesn't have some shoftfall, but in the right situation can be the perfect choice. The universal saw guide looks interesting also.
