Which 1.5HP dust collector is best? Jet vs. Delta? Bag vs. Canister?

Hey gang,
I have a basement hobbyist shop and I'm trying to decide which 1.5HP dust collector to buy. I have it down to either Jet or Delta in either the bag or canister format.

Is a canister filter is better than bag or just different. Any thoughts?

If you haven't checked it out, I'm very satisfied with my General 1.5 HP collector.

It does make a difference. You need to get one that filters out the very fine dust. Get one of the "2 micron canister filter" dust collectors.

If you're going to go with a bag filter, then you should look at the Delta 50-760 rather than the 850 that you linked to. It's also 1.5HP, but due to a different design the 760 flows a *lot* more air.

I purchased the Jet DC-1100RCK which includes the remote and canister. I have not used it a lot, but it seems to work very nicely.

The Delta 50-760 also has a 1 micron bag vs the 850 30 micron bag.

I opted for the 2HP model thought (impatience on my part forced that), as my local JET dealer would have had to order the 1.5 HP model, but gave me the 2HP for $25 more than the 1.5 HP model. The only problem for some with the 2HP model is that the motor is 220V only, but I prefer run anything over 1HP on 220 anyway.
The only additional recommendation is to replace the plastic bag supplied with a fabric 1 micron bag. This has helped extend the cleaning interval on the canister. The factory supplied plastic flaps cover about 75% of the inside of the canister filter, so I made a couple at our shop at work that cover I'd guess about 95% of the filter. There is a noticeable difference in the amount of dust released from the canister now versus when new.
FYI, I made the flaps out of some 0.5mm thick UHMW that was laying around in the plastic scrap bin at work.

1 1/2 HP model and have the same complaint on the cleaning flaps being too short. I might try your idea. I have no complaint about the unit other than that. I changed mine to 220 volt shortly after I bought it as the motor goes both ways. I think it's a good unit for the money too.

I have the Jet 1100A and it does a great job. I plan to upgrade to PSI 1 micron bags very soon.

I have the Delta 50-760 and so far I am happy. I know it works good on the fine dust because I don't have that wood smell in the air like with a shop vac. I have even stood with my nose against the bag when it is on and didn't even sneeze. That was a good test for me, so I think the 1 micron bag works great. Also the 50-760 won't cost you on filters cause it doesn't use them.
I only have it hooked to the table saw right now but I plan on hooking it to everything with lots of blast gates.
It is really strong on a 20 ft 4" hose all the way to the tablesaw.

It really depends on how long your lines and how many drops, so this works for me but it might not work for you.

Michael: The most important thing is the filtration level. What ever you get make sure it can filter down to 1 micron. There are serious health issues if you don't.
