My brother in law gave me a wooden plane and on the iron it says Sandusky somethin' somethin'. Any of you neanders ever hear of them? It looks pretty old.

Don't have much detail for you, but Sandusky was one of the more common wooden planes of the era. Try Google for more info.

There is a bit of a history here:

http://www.wkfinetools.com/hUS/mfg/Sandusky/index.asp (http://www.wkfinetools.com/hUS/mfg/Sandusky/index.asp)

Some of the most expensive collctable planes were made by this company.

The image shows an Exhibition Plow Plane sold on October 23, 2004 for $114,400 at Brown Auction.

Hope this helps...

Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't Sandusky connected somehow with Ohio Tool or am I being confused by geographical proximity.

Thanks for the replies, but my plane looks like a chunk of 4x4 with a 2 1/2" plane iron stuck in the middle of it.....pretty interesting reading though on the Sandusky tool co.

Thanks Wiktor yes that clears it up, I was always a bit confused that every time I put in Ohio Tool on ebay Sandusky pops up frequently as well.
